Into a good shape with dog and cat for the spring ! :)

Into a good shape with dog and cat for the spring ! :)

Is obesity a disease? Or do you think your grandmother or daughter seemingly unrelated to the obesity of your little lair?

Like many times in our human case, to admit overweight problems is problematic :). All the more difficult it is to admit to our pet. However, it is important to keep in mind his healthy and happy life and to realize that obesity is also a disease that has a negative impact on the length and quality of life.

Spring is the best time to focus on obesity or its solution.

Weight gain may indicate that something is wrong with the animal, either endocrinologically (diabetes mellitus, Cushing's syndrome, ...), or it is an undesirable effect of sterilization, which affects metabolism and makes the animal more prone to being overweight. Important is the word "more susceptible", i.e. that by regularly weighing and adjusting the ration after sterilization, we can completely prevent weight gain. Of course, we must not forget other factors contributing to weight gain, which are age and in many cases the breed of our dog or cat.

Obesity is neither healthy nor natural for the animal. Increasingly, animal obesity has been associated with the definition of disease in the literature. It has many undesirable effects on the musculoskeletal system, joints, cardiovascular system, respiration, organs of the digestive tract and urinary tract, and also increases the risk of urinary stone formation. Last but not least, obesity reduces your pet's age by an average of two years.

And how to fight this problem?

Of course, the main part of the fight against overweight is a correct and strict diet, which means not only a simple reduction in the daily ration of feed, but especially the right choice of feed taking into account the age, lifestyle and sexual activity of the animal. At this stage, we must also be strict on ourselves, because any diet violation, whether by a single sponge or slice of cheese, is a big step back.

Move first!

An integral part of any diet is, of course, an increase in physical activity. For dog pets this part of the treatment is much easier, because the dog is no problem to run for a walk and ensure regular and sufficient movement and energy expenditure. For cats it is a harder nut. Running around a lake with a leash on a leash is unimaginable science fiction. The cat must be motivated to move often by playing various climbing frames and obstacles, which must be overcome, for example, to get to the desired bowl with dinner.

The reason for obesity can also be very prosaic

Everything you do well ?? Have you nearly missed this big economic bag of weight loss granules from your vet? And that, for example, your dog - did not lose a gram? Maybe you still live with your grandmother or your mother-in-law or are your children behind it? Attention, these people, hoc have been instructed, can systematically and purposefully sabotage your efforts ... because the baby gets a little straw, gets from the table, gets chips ... a little bit does not hurt him (if you have experience with it, we will pay attention to this issues).

Dueling with obesity is always a long-distance run and it is essential to be fundamental, because it is a healthy and happy life for our pets.
